The Civil Engineering Department is one of the oldest Departments in the Institute beginning in 1961. The Department has been involved in the areas of Structural Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering. The field of civil engineering is dynamic and constantly evolving with advancements in technology, materials, and construction techniques. Civil engineers are also increasingly involved in addressing global challenges such as climate change, urbanization, and sustainable development.

The Department actively promotes curriculum development activity by updating existing courses, developing new courses, and preparing resource material for teaching. The laboratories of the Department are well-equipped. The Civil Engineering Department has separate laboratories for Environmental Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Concrete Technology, Transportation Engineering, Geology and Hydraulics.

The faculty of the Department continues to strive loftier by exploring new frontiers of knowledge, imparting the latest technical knowledge to the students, and conducting high-quality research.

The Department is well known because of our multi-talented alumni. Several students of this Department are in various topmost prestigious positions globally in different sectors like academia, research organizations, industry, government bureaucrats, etc.

The Department is actively involved in basic and applied research and consultancy and provides high-quality technical advisory support through various R & D projects and consultancy to various organizations. The faculty also renders technical advice on live engineering problems to various Government and Private Sector companies throughout the state and country. It is great to be a part of the oldest and most versatile branch of Engineering. The department had started its journey from 1961 and since then it has been producing a numerous number of professionals who have been contributing enormously to the development of the society and wellbeing of across the globe. The Civil Engineering Department deals with planning, design, construction and maintenance of all infrastructural facilities of a country that includes but not limited to buildings, bridges, dams, barrages, canals, embankment, highways, railways, airport, drinking water scheme, wastewater and solid waste disposal scheme along with checking of slope stability and bearing capacity of the foundation soil.

The students of the department are given exposure by paying industrial visits to nearby live construction sites in order to have a feel and to grow more interest by visualizing the live projects. Our department has well-qualified and experienced teaching faculty who are energetic and enthusiastic to provide quality education to the students. The main objective is to instill the fundamental concepts of each and every subject taught. The department has well-equipped laboratories, computer facilities and smart classrooms. The department also renders the testing of civil engineering materials and consultancy services to the challenging projects.
